Potential loss of power or other safety issues. Are you experiencing a loss of power or other engine issues with your GM truck or SUV? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is launching an investigation into potential engine defects in 2019- 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade vehicles. NHTSA’s investigation comes on the heels of numerous complaints from consumers alleging engine failures in the above vehicles.

GM vehicles subject to engine defects. The vehicles, which were equipped with an L87 V-8 engine, which, based on consumer complaints, may be subject to a bearing failure and a potential engine seizure or a breaching of the engine block by the connecting rod. The engine or rod bearing failure may happen unexpectedly. Such a failure is a safety risk as it could result in a sudden loss of power. NHTSA is attempting to understand the scope and severity of the issue. GM states they are cooperating with NHTSA, but to date, no recall has been issued.

Your safety is of first concern. If you are experiencing engine issues with your GM, GMC, Cadillac, or other General Motors vehicle, you should take the vehicle to a GM-authorized dealer for repair.

How do you know when a recall has been issued? Recall notices are mailed out to owners when the recalls are issued. If you receive such a notice, you should contact the manufacturer or the authorized dealer to repair the issue. If you have not received notice of a recall, you may go to the NHTSA website and search for recalls related to your vehicle. You will need the Vehicle Identification Number listed on your sales contract, repair orders, and registration.
